ABOUT WINDHAM FIRE AND RESCUE

The mission of the Windham Fire Rescue Department is to assist the citizens and visitors of our community with emergencies that they are unable to handle themselves.  This mission means the department will respond to many situations to provide assistance or advice on the emergency.  We may not be able to resolve but we will offer technical assistance or referral to another agency.

The Windham Fire Rescue Department has four locations that we provide response from.  These locations are:

District 1 - Main St. South Windham (13 members)

District 2 - Roosevelt Trail, North Windham (21 members)

District 3 - Falmouth Rd., East Windham (16 members)

District 4 - Gray Rd., Windham Center (17 members)

     Rescue Company - (22 members)

From these facilities we provide emergency response for the emergency at hand.

The department provides a range of services from fire prevention activities, emergency medical response, disaster response, fire suppression, hazardous materials, and weapons of mass destruction.  We also provide training for safety, hazardous materials, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for other departments in the Town of Windham.  In addition to these we have multiple mutual aid agreements with adjacent communities to provide and obtain assistance for emergencies.

The department currently has seventy-four (74) on call members, four (4) full time firefighter-paramedics, and three (3) administrative staff that provide the fire and emergency medical services to the Town of Windham.  The services are provided through a mix of full-time, part time and on call employees to give a quality of protection to the community.  There are sixteen (16) of the members that serve in both the rescue company and the fire company. In addition there are forty one (41) members of the fire companies that are medically qualified to assist with medical issues.  The members of the organization amassed a total of 5,800 hours of documented training for the year 2005.  The range of training topics went from completing paperwork appropriately to live fire training evolutions for members and new personnel.

It is with great pride that we acknowledge the fact that there was no loss of life in the Town of Windham from the fire in 2005.  We thank you for your fire prevention efforts both for yourself and family members of the department.
